Sellers and manufacturer of products for sale to the public have a legal responsibility to ensure that the goods they are selling are safe to use. The Sale of Goods Act says that all goods for sale should be of satisfactory quality and should be fit for the purpose for which they are to used and the Consumer Protection Act 1987 provides protection where a product causes harm due to the fact it is below a certain standard of quality. These laws are in place to prevent injury to the public.

When we buy or use a product, we expect these standards to have been maintained throughout every stage of manufacture.
